Dear Luminous Leader,
Once you’re up and begin your day, it can be difficult to be mindful.
Before you know it, the day is done and you look to realize that you’ve zombie-walked through all of it.
So much for your plan to be mindful!
That’s why I try to be mindful first thing in the morning before I’ve left the bed. Then whatever happens during the day, I know I achieved one of my goals straight away.
Here are three quick strategies to help you practice mindful mornings, too…
1. Pay attention to physical sensations.
Take a moment to feel the weight of your comforter or blankets. Sink into your pillow and feel it
supporting your head and neck.
Let your body totally relax and embrace the mattress supporting you.
2. Stretch out.
While you’re still in bed, do a series of gentle stretching exercises. Savor the feeling of being able to move your muscles and joints.
Pay attention to knots or pain—these may be signs that your daily posture may need to be adjusted.
3. Look to your dreams.
Now that you’re awake, think about your dreams from the previous night. Were they telling you something?
Was there a message in one of them that you need to carry with you today?
Often dreams give us insight into how to be more mindful.
Dreaming about a car wreck on the way to work may be a sign that you need to take a different route or a warning that you no longer enjoy your current job.
Mindful mornings don’t just happen—you must make them a priority.
If you’re worried you’ll forget, add a note to your phone so when you wake up, you’ll see it first thing.
Until next time,
