Dear Luminous Leader,
Not all work relationships work in the same way. Some will help boost your career, others are more of a friendship, while others are personal in nature.
There are 7 types of work relationships that you should cultivate.
1. Co-workers are often the starting place for friendships.
Cultivate these by getting to know your co-workers, helping them, and showing them you can be relied on.
2. Team members are professional relationships that help you plan, design, develop and execute work.
Cultivate these relationships through trust and following through on your word.
3. Work friends are those you interact with at work and, occasionally, socially.
They help keep you sane at work. Cultivate these by showing kindness.
4. Your manager or the person you directly report to.
This is the one that assigns your work, determines your salary, and helps you succeed.
This relationship plays a direct role in your workplace satisfaction.
Cultivate these relationships by being trustworthy, helpful, and respectful.
5. Your workplace bestie or go-to friend is the relationship you go to for advice, venting and sharing your emotions with.
Cultivate this relationship through open communication and listening to them.
6. Mentor or Mentee is a professional relationship like a workplace bestie, but on a professional level.
They help you think through challenges, give you perspective on how to handle disagreements and challenging work/business relationships, and guide you to succeed.
Cultivate this through honesty.
7. Life friends are those friends who fill the same role as additional work friends outside of work.
You have fun together, cry and laugh together and have romantic relationships with.
Cultivate these by being trustworthy, honest, and open.
Until next time,
